Helping farmers doesn’t mean guaranteeing their success

This article was put out by CNN on Sunday. It is the sort of stuff the dairy lobby will use to justify the Peterson diary program in the house bill that Speaker Boehner described as Soviet agriculture redux.

While we can sympathize with someone who is losing their family farm, that doesn’t justify introducing luddite programs to keep inefficient farmers in business. Helping such families adjust to changing circumstances is one thing; guaranteeing them a 100 cow dairy farm in perpetuity is entirely another.
