10 disasters America will face if Obama gets a second term

In today’s Washington Post, I argue that while electing a transformational conservative president may not be in the cards this November, stopping a transformational liberal president still is. The damage of a second Obama term could be potentially irrevocable. I asked a number of conservative thinkers what they feared most from a second term, and compiled this list of the top ten disasters that would befall America if Obama were re-elected this fall:

1.    Obamacare will not be repealed.

2.    The unprecedented levels of spending in Obama’s first four years will become the new floor, as America sets new records for fiscal profligacy and debt.

3.    Job creators will face massive tax increases, and more Americans will come off the tax rolls—resulting in fewer citizens with a stake in keeping taxes low and more with a stake in protecting benefits.

4.    Government dependency, already at record levels, will continue to grow.

5.    Four lost years in dealing with the entitlement crisis will become eight—digging us into a hole from which we may not be able to emerge.

6.    Obama, unworried about the impact of gas and electricity prices on his reelection, will finally wage the regulatory war on fossil fuels the Left demands.

7.    He will unleash the Environmental Protection Agency to impose crushing new burdens on U.S. business.

8.    His administration’s assault on religious freedom will go on and expand to new areas.

9.    The Defense Department will be gutted, with cuts so deep that America will no longer be a superpower.

10.    Obama could have the opportunity to appoint more liberal Supreme Court justices, ending the Roberts court in all but name for a generation.

This is, of course, not a complete list—not by a long shot. I’d be interested what readers and my fellow AEI scholars think: What’s missing from this litany of impending disasters?

  1. Without question, we will see the most liberal Supreme Court in the history of this nation. We will see the institution of marriage as we know it fundamentally and radically altered, and it is well within the realm of possibility that the Constitution itself will be thrown out. This sounds far-fetched, but it is not. Hadley Arkes, a leading constitutional scholar, has pointed out on numerous occasions that the recent wave of liberal judges do not subscribe to the basic notion of inalienable rights granted by a Sovereign Creator. They believe that the government grants rights and privileges as they see fit. It is not hard to imagine – at all – that some sort of a test case would be created that would reach the Supreme Court that contests the fundamental authority of the Constitution. A left-wing, liberal court would have no problem in declaring the constitution irrelevant.

    • I believe that Ruth Ginsberg, in a recent interview outside the United States, basically said as much. She would point to a 1/2 dozen other nations, before recommending our Constitution for any new Democracy. F ing scary.

      • Indeed, it is very scary. Yes, it was Ginsburg. A touch of research demonstrates that the leftist judges are intent on incorporating International law and European law in their decisions. There is simply no question in my mind that as significant as our problems are, the appointment of judges is THE issue of this election. If Obama wins, we will see the Christian ideological foundations of this country erased via judicial appointment. God help us…

        • Ginsburg is a prime example of how the brain turns to mush. Lifetime appointments need to be stopped. Cognizance testing yearly. You don’t let 90 year olds drive cars if they can’t see. And she should not be on the bench if she can’t think.

  2. If Obama gets re-elected this Cuntry as we know it will be gone. Our freedoms are being chipped away ever day with Obama and his radical eft wing genda Anyone with an unce of common sense should be able to see what is going on. Think about your vote because your freedoms and your rights are at stake.

  3. A “field Day” for the muslims now in the USA, plus even more will arrive here, plus many more Latinos and other illegals will come across our borders. Altogether, probably hundreds of thousands more. This is certain if Obama is reelected.

    • Fellow Patriots, our friend Jay Henderson said in his book, “Gathering Storms” that, “If we lose freedom here, there is no place to escape to. This is the last stand on Earth.”

Personally, I’m betting that this is still the land of the free and the home of the brave!

      • Free corn

There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some Exchange
students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Prof
noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back and
stretching as if his back hurt. The professor asked the young man what
was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back.
He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were
trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist
government. In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked
a strange question. He asked, ‘Do you know how to catch wild pigs?’

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The
young man said this was no joke.

You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting
corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat
the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence
down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get
used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another
side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You
continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the
last side. The pigs, who are used to the free corn, start to come through
the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.
Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around
inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the
free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage
in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity. The young man
then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America
The government keeps pushing us toward Communism/Socialism and keeps
spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental
income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies,

dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine,
drugs, etc. while we continually lose our freedoms- just a little at a
time. One should always remember ‘There is no such thing as a free Lunch!’
Also, ‘You can never hire someone to provide a service for you cheaper
than you can do it yourself. Also, if you see that all of this wonderful
government ‘help’ is a problem confronting the future of democracy in
America , you might want to send this on to your friends. If you think the
free ride is essential to your way of life then you will probably delete
this email, but God help you when the gate slams shut.

        • I totally agree with what your saying…Subsidies for non-public use things like food (which is HUGE) should totally be done away with. International costs to medicine/drugs should be negotiated more fairly, thereby lowering our costs and doing away with those subsidies. I agree that the governments quick fixes to poor policies have resulted in less freedoms. And I believe that voters should demand this from their congress that creates these subsidies. The problem is they are not. To get rid of corn subsidies would have to be an act of God. So where I disagree with you is this…To call Obama all these things, and not call those in the Republican party all of these things is hypocritical. Name one republican that would vote for doing away with corn subsidies? You can’t. I think you would have more luck with a radical left winger on that one. COMPROMISE between the parties that are not in the pocket of big business is the answer. Voters don’t demand compromise, elected officials and candidates don’t even want voters thinking that way, and therefore no one in government has to get anything done.

  4. Megan – you are sorely, no severly lacking in your knowledge of history and the effects of a socialist, liberal, marxist government. Checkup on the history of leaders that have had the same agenda as Obama and you will see that NONE, NOT A ONE has ever been successful when viewed from the citizens perspective. The ONLY groups to benefit were those in power and or supportive of the extremes that are rampant in those types of societies….. Wake up and smell the coffee and please, please have enough common sense to STOP BLAMING OTHERS for Obama’s poor excuse for LEADERSHIP – He’s basically USED UP all those excuses already….. You cannot improve the socio/economic situation of the poor and so-called under privileged by doing the opposite to the hard working, successful members of a society.. You will always and inevitably RUN OUT OF OTHER PEOPLES MONEY…….! Megan you need only to look carefully at the situation in Greece to see the only possible outcome to policies that basically mirror the Obama administrations vigorous attempts to create a total entitlement environment in the United States of America………

    • yeah look at Greece! They have an ineffectual government due to gridlock just like ours! What you think poor people are going to quit having children and rich people are going to start having more kids and a Democrat will never be elected to congress or the presidency? Please. The republican party can’t get any weaker than it is. Pressure to not follow in the footsteps of Ireland, Greece, or Spain is great, not from the Democratic party or the Republican party, but from our loan-shark China. It doesn’t matter what the U.S. “wants” to do anymore. It only matters what the U.S. does. China will be patient for awhile, but if the grid-lock continues, it will not. The countries finances are in shambles, but no Democrat will allow the government to fix that situation on the backs of the working poor. And no republican will allow it to be fixed by taxing the rich…And the poor, who are gaining on the majority in America, will insure a Democratic election. Where does that lead? Compromise…what Boner asks for most of the time, or the reasons he says “absolutely no” to most of the time are so petty…If you examine his alternative proposals to healthcare and entitlements they’re quite similar. Its a political game practiced on both sides…the problem is they’ve both lost site of what will help America.

      • Megan,

Poor people should not have children they can not pay for. Your little essay above is laughable. Where do think China gets it money from? It prints more just like our government does. Look at inflation. My 6 pack of socks used to cost $6.99 3 years ago. They now are $11.99. Why Megan. The Obama printing press!!!!!!!! Wake up Megan. The countries finances are in shambles. Really? So spending more money will solve the problem. Do you spend more money on your credit card to bring down the balance?

        Wayne Rife

        • Of course poor people shouldn’t have children! But ONLY people who can’t pay for it are having the children. That’s the reality. Your grandmother had your mom when she was 15, you had your kid when you were 15, and so on. Talk about some uneducated, unsocialized ignorant people…I just thank my lucky stars I wasn’t born into that. America can take the high road on this and negate this damage by creating highly expensive orphanages like Russia has and socialize these kids, or you can take the middle road, which we currently do, and make the public schools feed them breakfast and lunch, teach them right and wrong, and as a side note, after all that basic needs stuff is met by the public school, teach them the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic…not quite a competitive leg these days…but it least gives them a ladder out of generational poverty. Or you can take the low road like China does, and make them abort after one kid. We’ve faced this problem before…go rent Gangs of New York.

Look at Japan. They got hit hard by a recession. And they buttoned down the hatches and got very austere because, rightly so, they were worried about their deficit. But the mistake was they got austere before the economy rebounded. Essentially, they prolonged their recession and quadrupled their deficit. Quit spending on infrastructure and see the numerous secretaries, rock quarry workers, concrete mixers, welders, engineers without a job…watch the foreclosures grow. Watch bridges close which in turn closes business on that side of town…and then tell my children that you’re sorry their federal deficit was so large, but you thought it was a good idea to be austere as the rest of the world raced ahead of us.

          • Japan didn’t recover not because they went austere before their economy rebounded, they didn’t recover because their taxes were so stinking high. I have to agree with Dave who said you know facts but confuse them.

          • Megan,

The rest of the world is NOT racing ahead of us. What planet do you live on? Gangs of New York. I could careless what its about or what it might portray. What I see is a Gang of thugs in the White House.

            Wayne Rife

          • about Japan, they didn’t wait until economic recovery before imposing austerity measures, and they didn’t wait until economic recovery before imposing new taxes. I have never advocated taxing in the U.S., other than letting the 2% tax exemption extensions expire, as those in the top tier’s budget would allow it without affecting the housing recovery. And I do support austerity measure if our economy can continue to grow and it is defined as an “economic recovery.”

copied some history of Japanese economic recovery for you below
“…However, the yen’s appreciation in 1985 rendered the export sector uncompetitive, causing a moderation in growth from 4.4% in 1985 to 2.9% in 1986. The government tried to provide a stimulus with a drastic easing of the monetary policy through deep rate cuts. This action boosted investment as well as corporate profits, and these conducive conditions caused excessive funds to flow into the stock market and the real estate sector, thereby causing abnormally inflated increases in asset values. The government, in order to tackle this financial bubble, changed tack with a more stringent monetary policy and increased rates.”–from, http://www.thomaswhite.com/explore-the-world/japan.aspx
Note the combined efforts of “stringent monetery policy” and taxes…people downplay the austerity, but Japanese will tell you they got austere too soon.

    • If you really believe Obama is a socialist, who does not believe in the merits of capitalism, then I guess I’m just wasting my breath. He obviously believes in an a democratic and capitalistic America. You really think he’s that dumb? That he doesn’t know the the Mediterranean countries are failing and is trying to copy them anyway? That Greece, Spain, and Italy’s way of doing things holds THE KEY in how he should be doing things? What happened to my Republican party? How did hard working boys by the name of Rush, Beck, and Hannity radicalize it so in their efforts at ratings? Strange phenomenon. If the talking heads we had today had been around during JFK, we’d have been screwed long ago. Why do people buy their non-solution, sensationalist hype. Yes its entertaining, but to think that they have insight to real solutions…they’re working hard on their pocketbooks, not making this country great again.

        • Megan,

Read this email carefully. And let it soak in.

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very Liberal Democrat, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words ‘redistribution of wealth.’

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to Higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father. He responded by asking how she was doing in school.

Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend, and didn’t really have many college friends, because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked , ‘How is your friend Audrey doing?’ she replied, ‘Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She’s always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.’
Her wise father asked his daughter, ‘Why don’t you go to the dean’s office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA, and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.’

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father’s suggestion, angrily fired back, ‘That’s a crazy idea, how would that be fair! I’ve worked really hard for my grades! I’ve invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!’

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, ‘Welcome to the Republican party.’
If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between Republican and Democrat I’m all ears. If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!

If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one. If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat. If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life. If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation. A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels. Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church. A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it’s a foreign religion, of course!)

If a conservative reads this, he’ll forward it so his friends can have a good laugh. A liberal will delete it because he’s “offended”.
Welllll, I forwarded it to you.

          Sincerely,

          Wayne Rife

          • A fiscal conservative does not sit on his hands while the fiscally conservative party DOES NOTHING to get us out of this mess (where is the Republican plan for fixing social security and medicare/medicaid?). No, they’re too worried about Gay people. A fiscal conservative does not sit on their hands when the Republican party has the AUDACITY to prevent legislation that will grow the economy and allow us to compete in a global market (infrastructure spending). A fiscal conservative does not keep their mouth shut and follow party lines when the party is weak because it got too radical. If you want a war, then you got to pay for the war, and a fiscal conservative would rather it be paid for with revenues, not with borrowed money from China. Revenues must be generated…and if that means taxing the 2% who can take a hit on their budget without collapsing the weak recovery of housing, so be it.

You do know Reagan’s policies were so successful after Carter because Carter had created a bloated government with high taxes. How does Obama make an economic recovery after Bush who had a streamlined government and extended tax exemptions? Reagan rose taxes something like 7 or 8 times to keep us in good fiscal condition? How did republicans get so into the pocket of big biz in that they won’t even make good decisions for our country anymore?

            http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/01/05/did_reagan_raise_taxes_let_gop_candidates_answer_112640.html

  5. This Administration is a train wreck. There is no reason to believe the named items and many more would come to pass under Obama Part Dur. I live in California where lefties top the list Of “Dumbest Stuff On Record”. Calif borrowed a ton of money against funds that would come to the state from tobacco companies under a settlement in a law suit awhile back. Then what do the political hacks do? They raise the taxes on cigaretes and ban them everywhere. Guess what? The revenue was based on sales. No sales, no revenue. Borrow against projected revenue and then legislate the revenue out of existence by outlawing the sale of the product. Instant deficit! That my friends is a clear description of the left. The USA and the Presidents team are following the same path. Where is the Pied Piper when you need him? We are over run by left wing rats and some on the right as well.

  6. Gerri-you’ve already used up way more air than you ever deserved. Megan-our biggest threat is there are still people like you that know facts but confuse them. And to anyone who thinks anything other than Obama is responsible for the downward spiral our beloved country is on, get your heads out of the sand. Why would the leader of the strongest country in the world spend so much money hiding the facts of his citizenship, education, and large time periods of his life from the public? Do you think it is coincidence that Kagan was his legal consul on all of those issues as well as helping him push through Obamacare, then an unqualified, inexperienced nobody gets appointed by the same man to a lifetime position on the highest court of the land? We want to be self sufficent in our energy needs, but when the biggest oil boom combining North Dakota’s discovery and a pipeline from Canada all comes together at once, Obama says no. The biggest oil spill in the Gulf and nations from all over the world offered help, and Obama said no. The government backing the Volt with our money and each car costs the taxpayers almost a quarter of a million dollars? And it is a FAILURE. Bailing out the banks and lending institutions and not having a provision that they have to explain what they did with the money? Letting the President of Mexico sit in our capital and vilify our nation? Then siding with the same man over chastizing one of our states? And probably the worst thing of all, taking an oath to uphold the constitution of our country, then openly setting up a form of government designed specifically to circumvent everything it stands for! All this just scratches the surface, pity on those who can not see it. I defy anyone to find one good thing he has done while in office!

  7. I despise everything Obama represents and consider him non-American like the illegal immigrant. He epitomizes the phrase “the emperor has no clothes” and has pathetic leadership ability. While LBJ is the worst President, I consider Barry to be the second in line to the first bastard that almost destroyed the US. Screw you Obama.

  8. Bottom line:

Barack Hussein Downgrade and his National Party of Socialists will continue to wage their War on Liberty with no end in sight.

  9. I have serveral questions for you. First of all are you racist? Second since we are living in the last days, do you think it is going to matter who gets into office? How about the will of God being done? Do you believe God used Obama to set the stage for the anti-christ? Nobody can straigthen out this mess but God, man can not do it without His help. This nation has turned its back on God….

    • @ Revelation, everytime someone say’s something about Obama some ignorant fool calls them a racist. Isn’t it about time that the race card is put back in the deck. I get real sick and tired of hearing someone call a racist everytime they voice their opinion. On another note if god (this mythical being) that the weak minded use for some crutch because reality is to hard to deal with is going to clean up the whole mess what the hell is he waitng for? You beleave in this so called god from some story book that you were raised on yet you probably call people that believe in Santa Claus ignorant. Just take your prozac and go live in happy land!

  10. Weird. My business has grown steadily through the Obama administration. I guess I’m not one to stick my head in the sand and blame one person (or anyone else for that matter) for my success.

It must be frightening to believe what you’re spoon fed from your favorite talking head.

    • Well Jake,
Tell us what you do for a living and where you generally live. There are a number of businesses that have made a fortune off the Federal Government these past three years, and we know that people who live in and around DC have done quite well. Are you depending on the Federal Government for your business, i.e the rest of the taxpayers?
And most of us here, just want the federal and state governments to get out of every aspect of our lives.

      Buzz75

    • Same here. My husband went from an cubicle to an office with a window, taking care of things that had been neglected under Bush’s prosperous years (in which Bush stated, “the best thing you can do for your country is to go shopping”…talk about leading some greedy stockholders onto the wrong side of the tracks. Too bad he didn’t encourage the American public to save for 2008!).

My husbands company is a civil engineering firm. Many firms in China recruit our engineers as consultants. China is building like crazy in their country and in Africa. Soon, they will no longer need our experienced engineers, as their crews will have 20+ years experience. If Obama had not encouraged infrastructure spending, not only would many of our dated bridges cease to be used, but the costs to fix them would exponentially increase as raw material costs are at an all time low, but also mother nature’s wear and tear won’t wait. If Obama had not encouraged infrastructure spending, my husband would have lost his job, his boss would have bankrupted, and China would have bought up the engineering firms as investments, as they would have a new bumper crop of Chinese engineering students to man them. And our U.S. engineering graduates? So sorry.

I do not understand how the right expects to grow U.S. economy without spending money on infrastructure….I guess they’d like to shut down businesses on the other side of the river from the broken bridge? Maybe they’d just like to subcontract all our engineer’s work to China and encourage American’s to become lawyers instead?

      • I guess they need our engineers, teachers, and educated professional people since they murdered all theirs 60 yrs ago in their revolution. Talk about brilliant. You kill all the educated people in a country you take over then have to train the next generation of professionals to be good little communists. And now we’re helping them overtake our GDP.

        • Megan,

You are blind. Would you like me to send you the email of the Chinese building that tipped over because these morons cut corners and don’t understand basic building practices. The Chinese government is as corrupt as they come. Same with ours. Chinese steel is JUNK. I am a maintenance engineer and the screws that are made in China are absolute JUNK. They snap off while driving them into housing lumber that is 100 years old.

And as far as Obama spending money on infrastructure. High speed rails that only go 80 mph is not HIGH SPEED RAIL. Wake up. We had train tracks everywhere in the 40′s and 50′s and they tore them up because trains only go BACK and FORTH. Cars can turn left and right. Plus trains are subsidized by property taxes because they can not support themselves. The few dollars you pay to ride the train is NOT the actual cost. It is WAY higher. Socialism DOES NOT WORK. And neither will Obama’s policies. I to was a Democrat when I was young and dumb.

          Sincerely,

          Wayne Rife

          • Their aluminum reclamation plant our friend helped build was solid he said…They just go through an old neighborhood, make everybody leave, and put up the plant.

How blind can I be?…you do know that many of the legal Chinese immigrants in America are moving back to China because they can make more money there. (I guess they don’t value human rights). China’s infrastructure and economy is improving while infrastructure and economy has declined. The truth hurts.

Obama’s “high speed rail” is another one of his compromises that nobody’s happy with…true high speed rail would cost too much. He compromised and hopefully we can build on that and have highspeed rail by 2030 or something…quite a bit behind China. Gas costs and denser populations make rail viable again. Nashville retro-upgraded a rail line out to the suburb I live in. It used to be in the hole, but now it’s completely packed as gas prices have risen. Not the 1940′s and 50′s anymore.

        • Hank, I totally agree. I’m not sure what will happen over there, but I think America will have to take a back seat to China much like Great Britain had to take a back seat to us. There are so many ways they can beat us. It’s pretty easy for them to take over poor people’s lands, save money by exposing workers to not just slightly hazardous chemicals, but basically life expectancy lowering chemicals…like if you make leather jackets at this particular plant, you’re going to live to age 50, tops. Yet, Americans pull 60 hours shifts and work just as hard…What’s going on? We sold the farm to China…all of our intellectual property, we just gave it to them. I say we take the high road…they may make more money than us, but at the end of the day we can say we took care of our veterans who needed it, we invested wisely and in sound companies, we encouraged American innovation and quality education for the next generation that will allow them to compete with Asia…we did the right things to climb out of our hole. American innovation is the only way out.

          • Megan,

I think your off your meds again. You think America will have to take a back seat to China? You are wrong. Your other posts say you want a better America and yet you say something like that. Your either bi polar or crazy. Who makes more money than us Megan? Talk about a talking head. You are a talking head.

            Wayne Rife

          • You missed my whole point. Be better does not mean being richer…not when being richer means enslaving significant parts of your population. Being better means taking the high road. It means having a democracy where the next Bill Gates can easily come from the bottom echelons of society as he can from the top. We believe all our kids have the potential to succeed…not just the ones inside of Hong Kong or Beijing where the primo dollar is spent on education, so they’re test scores will look really well. We believe that everyone should be given the opportunity to make it big based on merit…or at least that’s what we should believe. China looks at the bottom line only, without regard to human rights or democratic ideals. I have no problem with the idea of you don’t work, you don’t eat. But I do have a problem with allowing children to raise themselves…or making the public schools raise them, and not giving them a quality education so they can work.

Great Britain is not richer than us. And they’re not better than us, but they’re not worse either, even though their GDP is lower. They’re not stealing lands from poor people….not controlling people’s freedom to own property, and although upward mobility is not the same as in America, it is attainable thanks to public education. Great Britain lost its empire. America has lost theirs too…thanks to poor policies of the last 20 years…as well as things it could not have believed (rise in developing countries). But having an empire does make a country better than another one, and it never will. American innovation is the only way out (and a lot of times, that innovation comes from the poor kid down the street A LOT more than it comes from a private school kid with a powerful daddy).

    • He’s probably in the gun business. The owner of one of our local guns stores confided to me that he was tempted to vote for Obama because business was on fire. Obama has bee named “Gun Salesman of the Year” since being elected.

  11. Those who did support this man for president and would again can only be explained by the word “reprobate” or “depraved” mind as used in Romans 1:28. The Greek is “adokimos” which being best interpreted: “A mind that can no longer discern what is in its own best interest.”
That’s the best explanation I’ve heard, other than insane.

  12. All Ameicans should have the right to own a firearm and these should not be “legislated” away.
South Carolineans, in the majority favor gun ownership. In my businesss, Real Estate Sales, many agents have been murdered or shot by a crazed person. Why should we not have the right to protect ourselves. If you took away our gun rights (those of us who abide by the law), there will still be the guns the bad buys have.

There is way too much legislating of Americans Rights away nationally. Not just gun ownership, but taking away many of the freedoms on which this country was founded. NOWHERE, should legislative members decide they know what is best for us, as the Federal Government is doing right now.

SC does not need to follow those things Obama has decreed by circumventing the House and Senate.

    Thank you,
    Sheila Reeves

  13. Obama is a muslim and is bent on taking over America. There is no other way to explain what is happening in our once great nation. If the people do not wake up and vote this jerk out of office, they will look up in 2 years and wonder where their freedom went. I am 65 and barely making it. Wrangler, my once great company kicked my wife and I out and went to Mexico and South America. No Jobs. Levi Strauss and all other clothing mfgs. are overseas as is Nike. There will be no jobs as long as America’s jobs go overseas for 50 cent per hour labor. Wake up America.

    • Do you know why Levi Strass and other went over seas? They give big to democrats and know what is happening… They think since they give big and left America they will be safe. if we are not safe, NO ONE is.
Nancy Reagan said…”Ronnie passed the torch to newt”. if he does not get the nomination we will LOSE and big time as loyal republicans will not vote for Romney but write in their candidate.

  14. But, but, he’s cool. He sings Al Greene songs to his wife, he buys a cop a beer. He goes wherever he wants on a really cool plane…and ‘Idol’ is on anyway, so what’s to worry about?

  15. I have to disagree with revelation. Standing around talking to the sky is not going to do anything to solve these problems, and actually makes matters worse because while a lot of conservatives are sitting around hoping for a god to appear to make the bad guys go away, the bad guys are using that time to impose deeper levels of socialism. Conservatives need to get out there and fight the good fight with the intensity of your typical leftist. One of the reasons the Left has been so successful is that the Right doesn’t fight back.

    • Agreed! Now is not the time to stand around. We all must get involved. Volunteer for a conservative candidate of your choice, speak out, and volunteer to be a poll watcher for the November elections. We must fight on and be vigilant!

  16. If conservatives had a REAL candidate we could take back the White House. But Romney looks like he is buying his way as nominee. Too bad Romney did not spend over $17 in Florida to LIE about Newt. Then we would have a real Reagan conservative nominee. There is still hope, but Americans are so dumb I am not counting on it.
I pray for newt daily. he can stop Agenda 21, Obama care, and on and on. But the people want a WINNER and they think that Romney is.
Not so. Even if he BUYS his way in, he will NOT be elected as Conservatives will let this country crash and burn so we can fight and take it back rather than have a slow and painful death from a RHINO.
yes I voted Republican all my life. I voted for the RHINOS..Dole and McCain( only because of Sarah), but no more.
I will have an absentee ballot and WRITE IN….NEWT. I will not do anything else on president but that.
I will vote the other races as there is a choice in all of them, I hope. But if there isn’t, I will do the same. As the democrats said, my party left me. Well, now the party I love and have been so involved with all these years has left me if Romney gets the nomination. I will vote NEWT!!!!!!!!

    • Adelle,
Dont be a jerk. A vote for Newt or any other write-in is a vote for Obama. Just like a vote or Perot was a vote for Clinton.
Any, I mean any republican RHINO or not is better than the socialist, markist Obama. He is trying to destroy America’s constitution and America’s middle class. It’s ovbious.
      Open your eyes.

    • I couldn’t agree more. Newt is the man! But like you said, our side is weak on everything except their religion. We need someone with the courage to take the fight to the enemy right here, right now. There is yet time though. Keep praying for Newt! I will do the same!

    • Newt may not be liked in Washington but is that such a bad thing? I know he won’t back down and he certainly isn’t going to sugar coat anything. He can handle the press, and he would certainly handle OBie in a debate hands down, even if the moderators were stacked on OB’s side. Newt is just what this country needs!

      • BTW regardless of who wins the primary…I will hold my noise if I have to and vote for anyone other than OBie. 4 years of him is more than enough.

  17. Mr. Thiessen forgot one vital thing in his list:

    11. Get ready for President Obama to expand the dictatorial role that the U.S. Congress has afforded him through the 2011 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). He has the unlimited authority TODAY to arrest, detain, imprison or murder ANY American citizen on U.S. or foreign soil. We need to scrutinize and investigate every piece of news, especially sudden disappearances or deaths of persons who champion free speech, such as Andrew Breitbart. Isn’t it curious that the reason for his death was reported as “natural causes” just 2 hours after someone found him dead, the day before he was to release scathing videos of President Obama while he was a student at Harvard? Where is the coroner’s report? Just asking …..

    • I was thinking the same thing. Don’t get me wrong I’m not a conspiracy person but even the talking heads were quick to say Andrew has had heart issues in the past. But really….it is somewhat coincidentally convenient, that he’s out of the way. Just when he was so close to exposing so much. His follows and editors don’t give justice to the information that’s been exposed to date, as well as Andrew did when he spoke.

  18. I want an America I can be proud of. That we at least pay our war veterans the benefits we promised them before they risked their lives for us. If it means that saying if you pay $600/a month for this health insurance for 10 years, and your child gets leukemia and your health insurance says the fine print does not cover that, then the federal government says they must, then I’m all for that. If your child gets in a car wreck in China and you do not have the money to pay for it, she dies. But if you pay, she lives. Upfront, honest and simple. In America if you child gets hurt, it’s been if you’ve paid $50,000 to the insurance co. the past 10 years, depending on what her complications are, it might not be covered. That’s highway robbery! Are these two examples not something we as Americans on the left and the right can unite on? Apparently not, because we’re too concerned about the spin, whose name is on the bill…one silly quibbling fact that’s been exasperated and polarized to the benefit of someone’s campaign.

Why be proud of America if the companies available, the investments available, if they’re allowed to scheme and flat out lie to people. Play ball, but play by the rules! What happened to upright, honest, and simple America…that’s what governments for right? To be the Umpire? Who decided they shouldn’t play that role in the new radical Republican party?

      • Megan,

You are way to dependent on someone helping you. Time to put on the BIG BOY pants and make your own destiny. Government is a BIG OLD MESS. Not an umpire.

        Wayne Rife

        • my kid didn’t get leukemia, thank God. But we use the insurance from my husband’s co. that is $600/ a month for a family of five. If we wanted to go independent with fine print that covered everything, it would be $885 a month. Health insurance is broken…it has gone up 300% since 1999. That’s why the republicans came up with a plan to fix it, just as the democrats did…and a the too were so similar it was ridiculous. I agree government is a mess, but not because I want the alternative (anarchy? is that what you want…if you don’t want an umpire, then that’s the only alternative imo). It’s a mess because its not an umpire, its a dirty player who is being payed to throw the game. We need leaders, leaders that will go against the radical right and left. The pendulum swings and I can’t wait until both parties become moderates again and get some real work done.

BTW, if your child has leukemia, we value life in America. Most parents just go into bankruptcy paying for their 100′s of thousands of dollars their insurance companies skipped out on. That’s how you put on big boy pants in that situation, file for bankruptcy when you kid gets leukemia. How that makes America great I don’t understand. Get your head out of the sand.

          • stop making up lies about insurance companies ‘skipping out’ on paying ‘thousands of dollars’.
medicare/medicaid denies 8 times more claims than private insurance.
please stop trying to pretend you’re a centrist when you speak like a leftist tool.

          • Medicare/Medicaid is in the business of spending taxpayer’s money according to laws in which it was was made. A democratically elected congress may amend those laws in order to make the program reach the greatest number of people. Insurance companies, before Obamacare, were able to make up the laws anew at the end of their fiscal year, without any ordinary citizen having a say in it, to the benefit of their stockholders. When you are so completely “Right” about everything, I guess I don’t look like much of a moderate to you. Healthcare is broken. It needs to be fixed. If the Republican plan wasn’t so completely similar to Obamacare, I wouldn’t be on here. If the Republicans were not insistent that healthcare be paid out of pocket by businesses, I wouldn’t be on here. That’s no fix to the healthcare crisis.

      • Health insurance had become like insurance companies we dealt with when hurricane Hugo hit and the house had water marks of grime half-way up the wall. There was flood insurance, but the insurance co. tried to claim that the water was “pushed into the house by the wind” instead of flooding in. Health insurance co. have been doing that same type of crap for years.

Health insurance co., in order to make a profit because of the high costs because sooo many people don’t have insurance and the hospital has to charge $50 for a tylenol…, They say things like, “oh yeah, we cover cancer, but this is that kind that its in the marrow and if you’ll notice, as soon as you quit doing chemo and decided to do this procedure that saved your daughter’s life, we quit covering it.” A BUNCH of bs.
And I don’t fault them, they’ve got to make a profit for their stockholders. But America needs to take the high road. One of the few jobs government needs to do is fix the underlying problem of why Health Insurance has skyrocketed in the last 15 years to begin with, so they can make a profit and not commit highway robbery.

        • Did you ever ask why we need insurance for anything? Think about it. Look up when the prices of health care, houses, cars, etc. started to rise. It coincides with financing being extended for years on houses and cars and insurance was introduced to protect the lenders. Why was it needed? Because hard working Americans did not want to wait and save to buy. It changed because we as Americans got sold on the idea that the American dream was about having a house, car etc. As we became irresponsible with our money, we cried out that we had been lied to and cheated when we lost it all. We wanted someone to guarantee we would be safe no matter what. We allowed and asked our fellow Americans that we elected to office, to regulate the private companies. What if we all decided it was our responsibility to pay for our house if it is damaged, our car if it is damaged and so on? What if we decided our health was our own responsibility? What choices would we make differently? The American Dream needs redefined by every citizen of this country.

          • I agree that the American dream needs to be redefined, but to go back romantically to a time to a utopia that never really existed by doing away with healthcare is not the answer. I would say historically, the larger the middle class we have, the healthier we are. The more we won’t be subject to political unrest. If your Utopia played out, we would be very similar to Mexico in that the rich would be very healthy and well-covered, and the poor would be very poor and unhealthy and the middle class would cease to exist…personally, I believe the middle class is what makes our country such a great place. It’s responsible for social mobility. There’s not a lot of social mobility in Mexico.

Also, in terms of healthcare, there was more than just insurance companies driving up the prices. Modern medicine is expensive medicine. What if decided that human life wasn’t of value? We might have a higher GDP, but at what cost?

  19. Newt will only get GOP votes. The libs won’t vote for him, and the independents won’t either, unless they want to live on the Moon. Mitt has not changed in the last six years. He is conservative. Name a policy he isn’t. He can be elected by the Inds whereas no one else can. Certainly not Santorum. Name a social policy they differ on. He just continues to pound Obama, which is what all the four should be doing. Buckley said to vote for the most conservative WHO CAN WIN. Look in your hearts. Who outside of the right will vote for Santorum, Paul, or Gingrich? We need independents, and look at the voting in the primaries. Mitt is doing it. He’s winning in the cities where Dems usually win. That’s what we need. In November, Dems WILL vote Obama, and Conservatives should vote Romney. A vote anywhere else, is a victory for Obama. All we need to do is to sway 3% of the last elections voters from Obama to the GOP. Look at the Presidents poll numbers. He’s beatable, but only if we have a candidate who appeals to the independents who are disappointed with Obama. Who is the only candidate to do that? Mitt!

  20. The definition of OBlamer:

Hubris ( /’hjuːbr?s/), also hybris, means extreme haughtiness, pride or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one’s own competence or capabilities, especially when the person exhibiting it is in a position of power.

    • What only 10? wow Obama’s my President….see the problem with the headline? I am glad he announced his purpose/ argument before introducing this thought “second Obama term could be potentially irrevocable” COULD BE POTENTIALLY and what is a TRANSFORMATIONAL CONSERVATIVE/ LIBERAL? One more and I will stop.. ” I asked a number of conservative thinkers…” How many? 10, 100, 1000′s is this number top secret? I offer two words of advice CRITICAL THINKING…..

  21. One more thing should be on the article of 10 reasons….
    11. If Obama is elected for another term, this will be the final election for President. If he is defeated (miraculously) there will be violent protests all across this country.

  22. In my opinion, here is a list of a process that will bring about Barrry’s reelection, and some of the results once it is achieved:
    1. Donations large and small from around the world will continue to come in via unverfied credit card transactions. Foreign contributions to a presidential campaign (illegal) will not be an issue discussed by the mainstream media.

    2. Campaign funds, public money (US Government revenue) and private funds from wealthy donors will be fluid and mingle with little or no controlling authority. Slush funds, payoffs for political favors, and vote-buying will continue and grow. Lobbyists, appointees, politicians, and corporate board members will compete to get on the gravy train. This is business as usual, but on a larger scale. total inability to track stimulus funds, epic failure of the Obama administration to be “the most transparent administration in history”

    3. Voter fraud, seen but covered-up in 2008, will be the norm, rather than the exception to the rule in November 2012. Recently released evidence from Wiki-leaks in the form of emails, also the O-list blogging team of journalists coordinating their coverage of the 2008 elections

    4. Non-OPEC Arab countries will become major players in the world-wide power struggle. Countries ruled by an alliance between Al Qaida and the Muslim Brotherhood will form a more cohesive plan toward expansion and islamification. (This seems unrelated, but will be subtly encouraged by the Obama administration both now and in the next 4 years). Entire “Arab Spring” and the real changes it has brought about.

    5. Sometime after Nov 2012, the World Bank, IMF, and EU will make something other than the dollar the major world reseve currency. This will be “special drawing rights” or the Chinese Yuan.

    6. Ruth B Ginsburg’s retirement will result in a freshly-picked appointee, most likely, the current Attorney General of the state of California. White House Insider / Ulderman

    7. Political favors will be called in and payoffs will be made. Various command-control-information-flow-funding systems will exhibit informal structures with multiple tiers (or concentric circles). Trusted and loyal entities will receive more, while others less, and outsiders shunned: think international diplomacy, world banking, funding of the states by the federal government, government contracts to corporations, and positions of power given to those who have proven themselves to be team players.

    8. Indoctrination and public service will become almost indistinguishable. College education will become a right and taxpayer funded. In the system of education, “nationalism” or “patriotism” will not exist per se, but be replaced by the duties that the individual owes to the environment and the world community. Selective enforcement of the law will become a means of reward and punishment. People who “inform” on friends and family will begin to be seen. Along with “free” college, quotas for certain degree plans will be implemented. “Fight the Smears”, Government becomes the source for all student loans, JobCorps, lawsuits agains the states by the US DOJ, etc

    9. Cities governed by Shariah law will become more numerous. Separation of mosque and state will be a non-issue in the mainstream media. “If the political winds shift in an ugly direction, I will side with the Muslims…” –BHO

    10. The “open borders” meme will go mainstream bigtime. Promoted and “discussed” as though it could be a choice, its opponents will be ridiculed, minimalized and attacked. The average joe will begin to think of it as the norm. “I am a citizen of the world…” —BHO.

    • I see Glenn Beck still has some fans. On all your conspiracy theories, Russian proverb sayeth two can keep a secret, if one of them is dead. On some of your other prognostications, see “psychological projection, among conservatives.”

  23. A fiscal conservative does not sit on his hands while the fiscally conservative party DOES NOTHING to get us out of this mess (where is the Republican plan for fixing social security and medicare/medicaid?).

    • Megan you should quit while your ahead (although you never really were “ahead”)… The more you comment the more it becomes clearly obvious that you have not a single clue how to interpret history or the outcome of liberal/socialist leaders that impose their agenda on a populus that is unable to think for themselves or take responsibility for their own health and welfare. Your comparisons of past adminstrations is laughable at best. Thank you so much for being a shining example of the type of mindless individuals that put Obama in the White House…..!

      • Give me the correct interpretation of the predicament of our country at the end of Carter compared to the end Bush. How was the recession of the late 70′s different than the sub-prime mortgage crash of 2008…Enlighten me Mike. What did your talking head tell you enjoy listening to as a favorite past time tell you?

      • The more I read your comments, the more I realize why our country will go to hell in a handbasket…rednecks have no voice…only the talking heads who do thinking for them. Show me a redneck who loves his country and I’m proud. Show me a redneck who loves Rush or Hannity or some other rich fat sucker and I’m sad…very sad.

          • how do my comments contain name calling and the rest of comments on here claiming I’m a liar, have no single clue, etc. do not? Rednecks are me and my neighbors. They are the people who volunteer to take up arms and protect your lily white behind. They will make this country great, or they will sink it. Thankfully, some of them realize the half-truths, the slight story, and the propaganda for the benefit of a middle easterner business owner with some ultra big investments who owns Fox news. Some of them are smart enough to realize (bet you didn’t know a redneck could be smart did you?) that the Republican party has sent them to war, and now is fighting to stop paying for medical expenses they’ve incurred there. Some of them realize the entertainment value of Rush, without forgetting that his solutions are never offered, he never will run for office, and the only thing he’s going for is ratings for the $$$. Yet, there is a pack of dogs out there, many of them brainwashed by the Fox network, and they’re going to run this country into the ground if they do not start thinking critically.

        • ‘has the AUDACITY to prevent legislation that will grow the economy’ <- explain exactly what legislation that would….??

more spending? because that's worked so well right?

its actually the left who's stifled any job growth in this country- just look at all the regulations, mandates and taxation in leftist controlled California, no wonder businesses are leaving in droves.

          • Nobody’s asking for the United States of America to be run like California, Washington D.C., New York, or Chicago. We are asking for smart spending. Spending that will allow us to keep our companies American owned, spending that falls into the category of federal spending already (infrastructure).

To answer your question with one of my previous posts,

“My husbands company is a civil engineering firm.

Maybe they’d just like to subcontract all our engineer’s work to China and encourage American’s to become lawyers instead?”

          • Yes, spending has worked well…you and I wouldn’t be typing on computers right now if the bail-out hadn’t occurred.

Being austere before the economy has rebounded will quadruple our deficit. Austerity is important, but do it too soon, and you’ll sink your ship.

          • Where is the Republican candidates plan for stemming the havoc that social security and medicare/medicaid spending is going to create in our U.S. economy? What is their plan to compete with Asia? What is there plan to handle Iran? How is their healthcare plan different that Obamacare? How are any of their plans significantly different from the current adminstration?

          • And don’t answer, “I don’t know, but its going to be better than Obama.” Been there done that with George W. Bush.

          • Amen Cali. Megan is clueless. Obama stopped the pipeline from Canada that would have provided jobs. And now we have gas sky rocketing. Why Megan? Because OPEC sees a weak president with no idea how to get us out of foreign oil dependency. Except to use algae. LOL What a moron.

          • Megan,

If your credit card is almost full does the balance go down if you go out and spend more money? Do you get richer if you spend more money? Joe Biden and you would make great taking heads at a party. A quote from Joe Biden ” we had to spend the money or face bankruptcy” WTF!!!

        • Note to Megs,

“How was the recession of the late 70′s different than the sub-prime mortgage crash of 2008?”

The main difference was the 70′s one was caused by a Democratic Administration and the sub-prime mortgage crash was caused by a Democratic congress.

As someone who voted straight Democrat until I was 56, I watched first hand as a real estate appraiser, how Democrats so interfered in the real estate area of our economy that it imploded as it did. No you say?

Time for, as we say in the appraisal field, some independently verifiable facts that are a matter of the public record. Let’s call this an honesty test. Will you let the facts speak for themselves or will you conveniently revert to selective logic in order to continue placing blame where after learning the facts you must continue to maintain it’s the fault of rednecks.

“Burning Down The House: What Caused Our Economic Crisis?”

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RZVw3no2A4

Use your pause button, it goes fast. Good luck getting honest!

          • Lies? I’ve never voted Democrat, but I certainly will this time with the weak, pitiful GOP candidates put forth today. I’d like to believe in a Republican savior president that will pull us out of this, and if there were better choices, I just might.

While I’ve never been a fan of Congress…Republican or Democrat, to say the Democratic Congress was responsible for the sub-prime mortgage crash is to reiterate the twisted truths as told from the talking heads. Freddie and Fannie could not create the housing collapse all by themselves…you do know the same thing happened in Europe, where there was no U.S. congress at all? The push–Ok’d by Bush’s federal reserve, you can’t deny Bush was at the helm and was requested to reign in the Fed’s permissible behavior towards wall street’s bundling of questionable securities, and in which Bush made the fatal decision to not to do it–the powerful push for “innovation in financial products” led to the housing collapse…brokers were given the OK to basically do, in the end, what turned out to be ponze schemes. I’ll admit the housing decline was helped by the democrats, who promoted, Freddi and Fannie with good albeit ignorant intentions–wanting lower middle class to purchase houses. But the way the talking heads put it, Freddie and Frannie were responsible for the whole collapse…That’s hogwash! The Republicans, and the rest of the western world, wanted the “innovative financial products,” and they still want them…and maybe this time they’ll get them right, since the federal reserve actually has the man-power to monitor these things…but the Republicans and Democrats, and specifically Bush at the helm allowed these products to fail us miserably the first time around. Looking at the sub-prime mortgage crash in hindsight, Greenspan placed far more blame on Wall Street for bundling subprime mortgages into securities than he blamed it on Frannie and Freddie.

To say that Democratic Congress during a few years of Bush’s eight is responsible for sub-prime mortgage crash is a half-truth. Bush could have prevented it as he made the appointments to the federal reserve, he could have pressured them, but since they thought innocently about everything that was happening, of course dummy Bush did to. Bush is the one who got rid of key positions at the federal reserve (less research available to find out just how these “innovative financial products might” from play out)…the streamlined government I was talking about. And Bush allowed the surplus monies available during his administration to disappear with his insistence on extended tax breaks….not the fiscal conservative we could have hoped for…neither are these GOP candidates.

So my point, not lies, is Bush held the presidency for eight years, and during that time Bush ignored requests to reign in wall street securities bundles…requested from some in the financial community, and well as from some in Congress (whether they were Republican or Democrat, I can’t remember, but probably Democrat because Republicans are so a mono-culture, they’d hardly oppose the wishes of their incumbent president). He deferred it to his Bush appointed federal reserve crew…as small as he had made them…who in turn had the belief, no, don’t regulate it, it will work itself.

Call all of this lies if you want. The truth hurts to a lot of you on here. Perhaps because you feel like your party can’t possibly be responsible for what is going on in this country. What a sad state of affairs. Your party is important, but its people like you who weaken it when you stick your head in the sand and won’t see what’s blatant to the majority in America and beyond. The Republican party needs to take some responsibility for their actions and move on. Heck, even when we all had to vote for W. Bush, we were disappointed, but new we didn’t want the “other guy” in. After that experience, I’ll never vote that way again. Moving on would include making this country great again by having the Republican party not vying for re-election by being the party of “no” and extreme criticism, but by showing their cards…How are they going to compete with China? How are they going to lead this country into healing with this polarized 50/50 split? The Native Americans were conquered by dividing and conquering…we’ll be beat by Asia the same way. Division=nothing accomplished. Nothing.
